A day, yesterday

Some floweres grown in our opposite house, its nice to see some flowere in this hot climate (yesterday its +40 degree Celsius in chennai).

Last evening there was a function in my uncle’s house (my old house) for my cousin sister (she was matured), really I was not interested to attend that function, but uncle and aunty was compel me, I don’t know any way, because dad went to office, mom should have to go in the morning for making arrangement for the function, no one will be in house, so I said yes, for the evening function, my mom took me their in morning itself. What to tell, from morning to evening, very bore, my only option is to watch Television. After 11am, watching TV was irritating, what ever channel I turn its serial (drama) time, the music channels like SS Music and Sun Music are above this, the VJ’s communication with audience are another irritate. But there was a cute VJ, don’t know here name, looks beautiful in the sleeveless and jeans with open hair.

Another option was to play TV videogames, even that was also not working well. Somehow I managed till evening. Any way there was not much relatives in the function, but had a chance to see many neighbors and their kids. We took some photos with my sister, and they wear different costumes for her to take photos. I think if a girl was matured, many do function, to tell others that she was matured, I disagree with this culture. I think only In India we do some ceremony for girls if she was matured, it’s like putting a circle for her freedom and calling the realities and neighbors and doing functions sends that girl into uncomfortable. I can see the stresses, with some sorrow through my sister’s eyes. We should change these old sentiments. Some old grandmas, used to talk about the marriages to these children’s, in this situation. The old’s don’t know it will take them to chaos mind. Are they asking her opinion, is she interested in this functions or not. Already some have started telling to my sis, u should go out and play with friends, it’s the time for them to play, after they went to 10th standard they not even have time to play, only studies studies. The future generations should correct them and stop these ceremonies, and leave them to enjoy their life happily. Is their any thing wrong in my thought?
She is my cousin sister Deepika

Jeev,

I think in several countries across the world the occasion of a girl coming of age, is considered a matter of great celebration. I feel its associated with motherhood, basically, rather than anything else.

I personally dont find the custom intriguing by any measure, but hv got nothing against people who believe in it. To each his/her own!

Peace.

First of all my Best wishes to Deepika.

I agree how boring TV programs are..I just cannot stand the serials. Most of the time it is some serial or the other!

I have nothing about celebrating this milestone in a girls life, personally I dont like it but we have to respect others culture and traditions.even here there is a great celebration on a girls 16th birthday. the hispanics have aparty very much like a wedding celebration except there is no bridegroom. hope u had a nice weekend.

...Yeah, we have our own special tradition in every country and we can't help but to do it because it must be. In Philippines we do it by 18th bday of gals and it depends on the family if they can afford to coz it cost much celebrating... party, foods , gowns , gifts and all etc.. etc.. so usually only in middle class family do it.

... aww 40 degrees in Chennai? that's hot!! take care yaar...

..Deepika is beautiful esp. on that dress..congrats to her!

...nice pic, i love it!

enjoy sunday!

cheers,
-kathy-

Velu – I don’t know several countries celebrate for this, my criticize was, doing functions with out the permission of that person, but the ceremony habit should not cross its limit. Happy Sunday Velu:)

Angel (WA) – intha old people thaan romba over’a poranga.

Venkitu – Thanks for your wishes, I don’t know what they are going to entertain with serials. The heat was over, when it beat with heavy wind. Hope the climate is cool there.

Starry nights – we should respect the culture, I agree. My weekend was good, hope u too enjoying the Sunday.

Kathy – but I don’t like doing functions for this, it was a stage in your life. Nowdays rich people are not doing party for this, only the middle and lower middle.

Ya its very hot here, Thank you dear.

Jeevan, I second Velu's comment. I think our forefathers did it with a purpose. Ofcourse, earlier it was a way of telling relatives that their daughter is ready for marriage (when there was no bar on the age limit). More than that its celebrating womanhood as Velu put it. But curbing a girl's freedom is something different - whether it happens because you have a function for it or not is not relevant. Some parents can still be very conservative. That way, these days things are definitely changing.

Smiley - Thanks for your wishes, ya now days watching TV is boring, except my fav programs.

Shuba - Thanks

GP - Thanks you. I avoid the relatives functions, each and every one will ask how are u, its bore to replay:)

Ravi - celebrating womanhood is ok, it's a happy time for the family. My point is the function should be done with her permission. World is changing, but there some used to conduct the old ceremonys.

Veda - true, many print cads and invite to celebrate the function, but thank god my uncle dint do like that, to stress my sis. Her friends will look her differently, it will give her a uncomfortable.

I've undergone all this but still to a lesser extent. I felt it bad when our servant-maid borrowed 10,000 rupees to do this function for her daughter. With a monthly income of just 200, my mom just asked her if this was necessary. She was just worried abt the society !! She is still repaying the loan + what she borrowed for her daughter's marriage + her grandchild's birth etc..Customs are man-made and I feel they shouldn't destroy us.

A girl might become physically mature but not mentally. No hard feelings...my personal opinion is I don't like it and given a choice would never want my daughter (if I have one) to go through this.

Pavi - A girl might become physically mature but not mentally” some Childs not even know what happen to them, and why are they doing functions. Many people don’t like to do this, but they are thinking about others esp. the relatives. Next gen should try to change them, I am not against the culture, and we should follow that, but it should not extend.

Keshi – thanks you!

thankfully for me, my mom gave me a choice...
it was a very small affair with only family memebers.
and i refused to wear the half-saree...

i still was a kid then..and i wore pattu pavaadai
:)

but i agree with u, it can be embarassing for teh girl

and curbing the freedom because of this doesnt associate with the function..it is all in the mindset

my parenst never curbed me
:)
