9/11 & After

Today is the 5th anniversary of one of the worst attacks in the history. The terrorist strikes the World Trade Center by hijacking the flight and crash on the beautiful Twin Towers.

Here are some details about 9/11 and the losses.

Crash timing: 8.46am and 9.02am.
The burning towers stood for 56 minutes and 102 minutes/ respectively.
Time taken to fall: 12 seconds
Deaths in tower one: 1,402
Deaths in tower two: 614
Citizens of 115 countries died in this attacks.
Bodies found intact: 289.
Body parts found: 19,858.
Number of children who lost a parent: 3,051.
Number of families who got no remains: 1,717.
Tonnes of debris removed form site: 1,506,124.
Jobs lost in New York owing to the attacks: 1,46,100.
26 days after 9/11, the U.S. began bombing Afghanistan.
Estimated amount of insurance related to 9/11 paid worldwide: $40.2 billion.
Total numbers of hate crimes reported to the council on American-Islamic Relations since 9/11: 1,714.
Estimated cost of cleaning attack sites: $600 million.
Time taken to build the WTC towers (from 1966 to 1973): 6 years and 8 months
Time taken to destroy the towers, from the first impact to the second collapse: 1 hour, 42 minutes.
Estimated Speeds of the two Boeing 767 jets that hit the towers: 470m.p.h. and 590 m.p.h.
Estimated temperature of the fires ignited by the jet fuel: 1,800 F
Bystanders killed by falling debris: 10
People who escaped the south tower form above the floors where the plane hit: 16.
None escaped the north tower form above the floors where the plane hit.
$2,235,997: Estimated value including insurance, pensions and other benefits of a 25-year-old man with one child, earning $50,000 per annum at the time of his death in the WTC attack.
116,000 American flags were sold by Wal-Mart on Sept. 11,2001.

2001: Delhi: attack on Parliament (Dec 13) no death.

2002: Indonesia: 1st Bali bombing (Oct.12) 202 killed and 209 wounded

2003: Saudi Arabia: Riyadh bombing (May 12). 26 killed and 106 wounded.
Indonesia: Marriott Hotel bombing (Aug.5). 12 killed and 150 wounded.
Iraq: canal Hotel bombing (Auf.19). 22 killed and 100 wounded.

2004: Waziristan War (Ma 2004-sep,2006).
Spain: Madrid train bombing (Mar.11). 191 killed and 1,700 wounded.
Saudi Arabia: Yanbu al Bahr attack (May1). 7 killed.
Saudi Arabia: Al-Khobar massacre (May 29).
Indonesia: Jakarta embassy bombing (Sep.9), 11 killed and 140 wounded.

2005: L Ayodhya (July5), 6 killed.
Britain: 1st London bombing (July7), 52 killed and 700 wounded.
2nd London bombing (July 21). No deaths.
Indonesia: 2nd Bali bombing (Oct.1). 23 killed.
New Delhi blast (Oct.29), 60 killed and 115 wounded.
Bangalore IIS. (Dec.28). I killed and 4 wounded

2006: Varanasi (Mar7), 15 killed and 101 wounded.
Mumbai train bombing (July11), 202 killed and 700 wounded.
Malogoan (Maharashtra) bombing at Mosque (Sep 9) 37 killed and 100’s injured.

  3. The info abt 9/11 attacks is really interesting. What it makes me think is: The Americans actually had the presence of mind to calculate all these. But since, with mere presence of mind all this is not possible, this requires excellent processes being in place for disaster management. That sets me thinking.
