Culture of Acid attack

Acid was a chemical, which used for domestic and industrials purpose. Acid is dangerous liquid; we have to handle it safely, or it will affect our tissue, damaging respiratory organs, eyes, skin and intestines. We have been reading in newspapers, watching in TV (mostly in the films), where the acid are used illegally for attacking humans, some even fill the acid in the empty egg cover and pore on the face. According to Wikipedia, Acid attacks are primarily occur in the parts of South Asian countries, especially in Bangladesh.

Acid throwing remains a major problem in Bangladesh. Mostly these attacks are pointing women’s. For example If a girl refused the man’s proposal or avoid the sexual relationship with him, she will be punished my acid. The acid eats the skin down to the bones, and the woman's chances of living a normal life after such an attack are virtually nil. The acids which use for these attacks are sulfuric or hydrochloric acid. These women’s never leave their homes without wearing a burka (a black dress cover the whole body) and a piece of cloth on their head covering everything but their eyes. Even the school going children’s were affected in this attacks.

In 2002 the death penalty was introduced by Bangladesh government for throwing acid after the number of victims rose to nearly 500 a year. There is also legislation to force businesses that use acid to store it safely. Even though 267 people were still attacked last year. Very cruel issue was a month old kid Durjay was made to drink acid years back, last week he had heat failure but was revived, after a series surgery now he was breathing through a hole in his throat. When he cries the air wheezes in and out. No one has been brought to justice till now. There are much cases like this in Bangladesh, but many cases have not took to court, because of no money to get a Lawyer to get justice. There is even a special hospital and rehabilitation center for victims in the capital, run by a charity called the Acid Survivors' Foundation. The first known acid attack in Bangladesh took place in 1967, and the number of attacks has been rising constantly since the mid-1990s. The solace news is at least the NGO’s are fighting for these poor soul, God bless u people.

Acid Survivors foundation? what a tragedy. I cant imagine the pain one undergoes when the acid slowly eats away your flesh until the bones and you are still alive. The criminals should be acid treated too !

How inhuman u have to be - to cause such an harm to another person - what is worse is that they use love as a reason - First criteria of love is - Your lover should always be happy and no harm should come to her/him - And these people cause such heineous crimes and then call themselves lovers.

Very informative post. Nice that you are creating awareness for your blog readers too. Certain people who are brought up without love in the society tend to grow up as anti-social element. They indulge in such activities. Think about yourself. You have good parents who could shower their love on you. Those anti-social people do not have anyone to take care of them. So they grow up without any affection and hatred. If they are taken care, then we can expect a country without these things.. It is a bit complexed matter. Hope everyone realises this and work towards better society.

Aruna – it’s a very cruel attack on human. Now days the acids used for domestics are power less, because of some people used it for illegal.

Aatma - That's not at all love, just affection on skin, if they dint get that, they like to destroy that. Its like, which dint get for them, should not get for others.

Keshi - will consider your punishment keshi.

Indianangel – Good suggestion Prasanna. Peace is the only way to realize the fault, and control our mind:)

Velu – hugs it’s shocking news know.

Balaji – thanks friend. I totally agree with you. I too don’t what will I doing now if I dint get parents to take care of me and support me. There is no many Mother Theresa to show love on others.

Amutha – hum, it’s happening for years, but no solution for it. The hole on the government’ law are supportive for them.

Nice and informative post Jeevan!
Your post reminds me of Chandralekha IAS who was acid attacked. I remember seeing a program hosted by actress Lakshmi on Vijay TV which spoke about people who have been affected by acid attacks for various reasons. It was very sad to see them.

People deviate to find a way by hurting others and become a saddist. Wonder animals do take care of its family from danger and protect it. But we?? We try to mock and make fun at the same person with different features. Crazy world out ther and people who do are weak minded and ten to get media attention.

More vices of men. I think they are coward to do this, they will receive their fair share of the crime when they die.

Pavithra – Thank you, every one wish was also the same.

Karthik – thank you, hope that the foundation should close soon (the incidents should decrease and end one day).

KK – THanks, I think I have also see that show, “Ithu Kadhai alla Nejam”. We cant even support if some hot water or fire sparkles injure our skin, but I don’t know how the are bear this Acid attack.

Arjuna – romba payapuda thaa arjuna, I forget to write that, kindhearted (elagiya manam) people should avoid this post.

Starry – if some thing comes useful, there are some to use it for illegal. You are welcome.

Keshi - :)

Priya – “We try to mock and make fun at the same person with different features” I seen some make fun on the people who are affected in fire or acid accidents and tease them and hurt their mind.

GP – nowdays who ever did wrong or hurt others, are getting punishment in current lives.

Vanathi – Thanks:)
