Something about travelling and Great Hornbill

Horse Cart
If you know I’m a travel enthusiastic, travelling is my passion which I like to have often. Lately I have strong emotions to go out in seek of some remedy to my insane and it works well when I was in travelling and resting in hills. I was forced to leave home and see people as a consolation to my insane, and I am somehow comfortable now, with various moments gripping my mind and sweeping or hiding away those injurious thoughts.

Though whatever I planned hasn’t happened quite, I tried to enjoy a lot of things that came in as surprise and felt that more than expecting, enjoying the thing that comes in hand does not disappoint. It was a wonderful journey into Anaimalai hills of pollachi and sighting some rare and wild animals, forest atmosphere and pleasing weather in hill tops, while bright sunshine and farm houses and flowing canals in-between coconut groves and tea estates of valparai are few more resumes again.
Aliyar river
Except pollachi IB – the one we stayed last time also, the various places we stayed may be more or less in comfort, but has something to wonder at its structure and surrounding. The nights are embraced in moderate cold and pleasant inside, and the sustain silence makes easier in listing to birds chirping and hornbills singing. Just opposite to our bison lodge in topslip, the great hornbills have build there nests in the large number of trees and makes clear and loud vocal at night.

One afternoon, while wandering without heading to lodge, we’re glad to meet an old man, who was a guide in topslip, taking visitors into the forest by foot and in van. He was taking rest under a bus stop opposite to our lodge and we get to chat with him for sometime about the forest and animals, and thus he says that this is the time hornbill’s nest and breed chicks. So the visitors are not allowed to go inside the large clumps of trees.
Great Hornbill01
As we’re interested about the great hornbills, and liked to know something about it and he says they make unique sweet noises while flying above and makes it louder in breeding season to call the male, and later they sing in unison. The female bird builds the nests in hollows of large trees and imprisons itself with a plaster made up by feces, leaving a slit and lives until the chicks partially grow. During this time the male brings food and feed female through the slit and the chicks follow the same method and seal it again, ones the female comes out.

It was a surprising sight on the Sholayar dam - Valparai, where I saw a great hornbill for the first time, chased by crows to sit and go on by a nearby tree. First looking at its mass I thought it was a huge crane, but only seeing its long colorful curved beak I find it was a hornbill. While staring at the beauty, I went wow… at moment looking at its magnificent and being late in capture, the gorgeous was chased away by crows, but somehow I manned to click few shots that came out here.
Great Hornbill
While traveling somewhere around anaimalai, I thought are we illegal to this land and when I think back it sense me right. We just go in seek of nature and in love, but not almost realize we’re entering someone’s home and just lost our space in urban development. Many years age we have been sharing the similar amount of space and greenery, but we destroyed everything for our comfort and development and go in seek of nature which is pure and pristine left over at forest and mountains terrain. Sometimes we have to acknowledge the mistake about not controlling our desire and should always keep in mind that our existence should not disturb any nature resources, as we’re like thieves at that present and should follow the universal rule of maintaining silent and let no marks exists. We can’t keep much distance from the nature resources and it has something for every one of us to live and we also have to keep in mind that we let live the resource as it is for our future to exist. Its nature, we always crave for what we don’t have.

Magical move

magical move
One evening when dark clouds began to shower suddenly, the two crows that belong to this tree for sometime now, flown from somewhere and grasped a branch of gulmohar, facing against one another under fern like leaves as shelter, interested me to capture the scene. The light blue sky and quite dark crows get me a wonderful view of silhouette, but interesting a little movement while clicking the picture makes it something special and I loved the cause it produced. I sense something charming and magical in this picture, and do tell me if you feel something?

Poombarai

Poombarai
The place we decided to travel first after arriving kodaikanal was, Poombarai. It’s a beautiful village, with an hour drive or 18km from kodaikanal on the way to Mannavanur. It turned noon when we were moving around with couple of restaurants to get our lunch parcels to only get a replay of no after making delay, and the places we like to go further have no provision of food, so we just gone with bread and jam to stop some more delay. The route we went take us through pine forest, where woods laid nearer in order by nature or whoever, stands tall in almost wet surface, just makes cool like anything and ever green. The fallen woods that remain after removal from way are tuned to live within nature simply getting to ruin to feed nature and they say these woods are banned to remove from here and this one reason helps nature to bounce within at least.

We had nothing to do with the village Poombarai, but it does everything with its pretty views I have ever seen that make impress with the pattern it provides. Parked beside a curve road that gives a clean sight of the valley, we saw the beautiful village surrounded by different shapes and size of lands that carved like steps on the slope of hills and it was well known as terrace farming. One part of the fields in different soil colors, gives a wonderful pattern and few terraces are traced by ploughed and harvested, with remaining terraces into the progress of developing cabbages, carrots, cauliflowers, potatoes and hill garlic, which is noted here.
Terrace farming
Almost with tiles roof, the houses seem even at distinct. The valley that exist other side of the village is wide open to an excellent view of Palani hills where Poombarai situated as its heart, a mountain range in Western Ghats. There’s a wooden view point adjoin to the road side, to climb at our own risk and there’s a small hill top with shrine, where one could enjoy the cool mist and breeze that moves into peace and pleasure looking over the village. At far distance there was a falls flowing like a silver line and as far we move, the view continues along the way; and it was interesting with fresh green vegetation fields. The irrigation was done through a small canal where the spring water collected from nearby areas passes through and wonder how water supplied to the higher terrace when rain fail to visit.

And back in evening, it was another splendid view of mist covering the valley and slowly caresses the village. I wonder how the people would feel being under blanket of mist and just being hidden from the world view for sometime to clear.
village kissed by mist
The village exists like an untouched beauty as its core attraction, with petal like hills surrounded. It was nice to see them farming even on no flat surface and creating something to progress their lives, and not like those people who sell there well growing lands to more money and turn it to concrete floors in name of development. We come across many farming lands, but this was simple marvel. The village is connected with buses from kodai and it was a remote village with no clear signal of mobiles, and it holds a Murugan temple with history of three thousands years and once a year they celebrate cart festival after Thai Poosam that comes in Jan-feb.

Lodged with princess of hills

The day dawns very early receiving rays of sunlight into my room, and I wake up in aware to see the beautiful princess of hills (kodaikanal) through the open windows, in between the disturbing concrete structures immerge the beauty. First I felt like a prisoner seeing the princess from behind the cages, as the window bars looks like that and it was more enough for someone living within city developers, whom dismissing the beauty as untouchable fruit! The homes and buildings are prisons; we build for ourselves to live with no life, and like released in parole ones or twice a year, we go in search of pleasure that nature gives.
looking for princess
Unlike we keen for shadow on a sunny day, I wished for sunshine morning to make me out of shiver, the cold night gave. I stretched out of home, as I find the place interesting the previews nightfall, I stroll on my wheels around the front yard and it was a simple cottage with roof tiles, and portico with its kind to gossip moments and a swing to move in comfort. It was a lonely cottage to get on our wish, with garden of pears in backyard with sliding lawn and tiny flowers in mini pots. Interestingly there was a Jeep and being a big fan of 4x4 I often get noticed by the vehicle, and it was modified like a hunter jeep and it was the first thing attracts me getting down there.

hunter jeep
a little dream home
I could not forget this place so easily, more than for what it was; I had an accident with my wheel, while trying to climb a steep path to fall backward along with wheels. It was a great time that I escaped with unharmed! Everyone was really scared about this incident and special attention had been given to me then and I acknowledged it’s truly my mistake. I was very careful then, the mistake never repeats and disturbs our pleasure. What all I had been enjoying stays for a brief time, as we had decided to shift our cottage in lack of some facilities and in meantime we stoned some pears and took pictures around the cottage, that I don’t want to leave.
the pear garden
Later I felt the move is also for good and better, and it also has some other story to share later. The places we stayed where 2km away from the center of kodai, and the new cottage had a kitchen to cook dish on our wish, and whatever cooked there tastes sweet. On our first day, aunt made ven pongal and every time it comes with a distinct flavor, and the thing is said to be the water provide the hills make the dish very special.

Gazing moon

gazing moon
(click picture to enlarge)
You’re bright like tube light
and cold like kodaikanal
we learn science since; you’re a mystery
gazing around every full moon nights
striking upon your blazing beauty

Midnight in bright orange light
have been astonished upon your visits
through the stripped window screen;
though the space immense like ever
I couldn’t quite enjoy your beauty

Sometime on cold winter days
you dawn into dusk, in red in color
to let me astonish, could you turn ever
your reflection on sea
where I see silver waves swing – its beauty

Through window

I saw birds flip it wings in joy;
the dark clouds gathered to pull me out
and the rain drops
and breeze, that touched my sense
and leaves that moves along.
reflections of heat
One evening,
the clouds reflect heat in color
collected throughout the day,
the sun was blamed forever
for the unbearable flame
that left people in distress.
reflections of heat
I wish often the days
continue as clouded sky
until immerse the sunlight
and branches that sprout leaves,
in between the sky closed to rain.

Sun set down

Sun set on ECR
Sun set on ECR
the pictures taken on ecr
Sun down to dawn somewhere… like how down and rise exists in a person’s life
We sit down to learn something… to stand proud in front of crowd
A seed is down to earth… to grow as a tree and plant to stay alive lives.
Building needs a down… where lays the strength upon
Let down to be a ladder… to help someone to climb victory.

I was caught up by a sweet annoy, my cousin ashwin, who is my only companion at present, wants me accompany him always. So an uncertain movement here again, but I love it too. Lets have fun.

A little squirrel

Little squirrel
Everyday I just hang like a monkey in our front gate and I have a reason to be like, because it was one simple exercise I do regularly by keeping my hands above holding the gate to maintain grip and movements by sitting on wheels. As I was hanging today morning, I find a little squirrel running here and there on the compound wall and I wished to keep watching its movement and so called dad to drop some grains on the wall. Then in minutes it returns and nibbled some grains by holding its tiny limbs closer, and I used this opportunity to click some snap and a video (check below). As early Maya was barking at finding the squirrel and thus driving it away, but glad it returns to give me this chance.

May be tomorrow there could be a power cut in our area from morning to evening according to newspaper. I am thinking about what to do this meantime when there was no electricity to operate computer, listening music, watching television… except interest on reading and cleaning something or do nothing to relax. Anyhow nothing can make cool this summer like the southeast wind that blows, without blowing hot waves. Have a nice weekend dears :)

Trust and belief

Placid lake
Everybody trusts somebody in the essence of life. Being true to ourselves is also a form of trust and belief, which get us freedom and left fearless to be strong. When I come to think about trust, I felt to believe that humans are the only obvious in life. From my view I see only people around me and even my favorable nature could turn sometime to unwind, but if a person could not attend me I am no more and sprinkle. In trusting something vague and nothing, it’s better to trust a person indeed. Every person is not believed easily and no one could understand like a person indeed. I believed in some people generally and when came to know there true nature I does lost hope, but learned lessons that all passing clouds don’t rain forever. Even though I expected and experienced drought to realize that seasons change and every season have an essence. But what remains eternal was air we breathe and what exist for now.

What we believe is up to our belief and nobody can force somebody to believe something. Even if something exists by a force there we could not find a true belief and something like that I experienced early in my life without my knowledge. Today also I could see some parents insert there belief into there children and wiser people to defuse the young ones uncertain. No person is unbeliever just like that, unless experience the stuff and learn a lesson, and don’t our experience and knowledge rise us up? There was something called god, ones I believed uncertainly and prayed from heart and do things whatever said by parents. My journey drove me through much mirage believed to be true and murmured anything without front thinking and in fear. No one could find out the change in me so easily, because there wasn't much difference in my practice and the change happens inside to invisible to anyone. In love I accept anyone’s wishes and prayers, direct or indirect it was from there heart, but I never pledged to there belief, because I trust them and not there belief.

In friendship trust is more important, what we can’t share with our parents and cousins could be done with a friend. What I shared here is unknown mostly to my dear ones outside blogging and I wonder sometimes why we have a limit with them. We really run within a circle and never thought to go beyond in trusting more like a friend and alike, everyone have a friend to share there secret in trust. In my life I am uncertain with any relationship to trust to bear me as long I and they live, and it was something uneasy for me to think beyond my parents. If I have to say something about my happiness and spirit, is because of being true to myself and my conscience. First we have to trust ourselves, before expecting someone to be true. We trust people up to a boundary and even we have to trust them alone beyond the boundary, which I would to do with no secondary idea.

This post was inspired by Krystyna’s recent blog post.
The picture above was taken on feb 12, at 6 in early morning. The place was Muttukadu Backwater Lake on ECR.

Got the wished

My Canon
The long time wish or even sometimes the desire exists with new Digital Camera. Canon PowerShot SD850 IS in my hand delight all time looking at the 230,000 pixels colorful LCD. Its nine months since I was waiting for this camera to arrive through my friend’s colleague from US. It was the thing I must be holding right already, but because of some wrong information I missed to urge and avoid giving difficulty to my friend when he was on a project to US. Till then he was urging his colleague friends about my cam whoever left to US, but for some reason their return was delayed.

First of what the entire camera I chose its best is not what I get now, but the one similar to the Powershot SD800 IS this. The SD 850 is 8 Megapixel and what I chose is 7.1 though its costlier in Indian rupee, but not in US and the people get through online couldn’t find the model I selected. Though we can’t expect everything should be perfect, so I prefer to SD850 which is no more less to SD800 which I think best but comparing some options are high in this.

Something I looked important to choose the PowerShot SD 850 IS:

1. Image Stabilizer (for steady, long zoom shooting)
2. 4.0X Optical Zoom
3. 8.0 Mega Pixels
4. Red-eye correction
5. 2.5 inch 230,000 pixels Pure Color LCD
6. ISO up to 1600 and many lighting effects.
7 Weights (165g)
8. Battery Power (230 shots per charge and 700 shots in LCD off)

But to tell truly the disappoint thing in this camera is the weight, little heavier than I expected. The cam body just fits in our hand, which is comfortable pressing shutter button with a support. The zoom can’t be calculated as it don’t show the exact stage in zoom, but no different visible, I must do exercise more with optical Zoom and it was fun zooming something in distance. In addiction I buy a 4GB memory card that can hold more than 1,000 shots in Super Fine to take the maximum quality pictures and in minimum more than 5,000. I like the color of the body in silver metallic, the ultra-slim and stylish look. The first reason to select Canon PowerShot SD 850 IS is for the much less shaking option and it’s the main problem I face more in Digital Cameras taking more shaky pictures. When i was looking for this camera in India it cost 360 US$, but the same thing cost me 227 US$ brought in US. Hope power shot portrait colorful to heart and sight, with your entire wish.
