Do you agree mouse is convenient than touch pads in laptops? I feel quite comfort using it after a while get used to touch pads and touch screen. I think working with mouse is much faster than scratching the touch pad and I really wonder it is me alone feel such way or there are other who could agree.

Dad bought me a touch mouse from Logitech and it was cool operating from the little space on my wheelchair tray, aside the laptop. The touch is available only for scrolling vertical and horizontal by swipe one finger and it also has buttons for start menu and desktop screen apart  right and left buttons.

Beginning with ball mouse and later with optical, the wireless and touch has made it very smooth, soft and convenient on any flat surface. When using ball mouse, we needed a mouse pad and the mouse often get struck with dirt inside and has to clean it by remove the ball  and it also survived very short. The funnier part was, we sometime play with that ball! Lol 

Payphone or telephone booth

We live in Smartphone era, but there was some period, peoples depend on phone were only on telephone booth and payphones fixed at some particular place or office or junction. For many people in India and abroad these payphones still helps at communication in absence of mobiles or emergency contact. Before telephones arrive at our homes, we used to visit the telephone booth or PCO (public call office) to make phone calls; and in my childhood days I have accompanied many a time my aunt to the red telephone booth or payphone in our area (Adyar) to make calls to her friends. I really enjoyed accompanying her not only because it was fun dropping the coin into the photo box and then dialing the rotary dial, she also get me chocolate or ice-cream while back home. 

Apart telephone booths, sometime we also visit our neighbor’s house (one or two houses that have telephone connection then) to make emergency call and also give their number to our relatives and friends to call in case of anything important. The same thing happens when we bought telephone, some of our neighbors get calls from their relatives and we have go and call them at their home… which only then we realized how difficult we gave to others. Lol

There were also few shops in our area then had telephones, which they also make it as a public phone and collect money for talking. We were also asked to press a red button (an additional device attached to the phone to calculated our talk time) when beeps rise at the end of each minute of the call, like how we drop one rupee coin in the payphone boxes at the end of each minute to continue our talk. 

Those days, I guess, we can’t make STD (subscriber trunk dialing) calls or talk out of our city or town from the telephone booth or payphones but only visiting the specify shops that has STD or ISD facilities. Making an STD also means paying more money, so people don’t make much calls unless important and also put their calls short and sweet thinking of the high rate. These days we can’t find any of those pretty red telephone booths, but only the yellow payphones fix to the walls or poles in public places or in front of the shops and the minimum rate of call to make allover India is Rs.1 per minute. These payphones are provided by public telephone sector ‘BSNL’ and the amount received through these boxes are collected by neither shop owners nor BSNL employees, for which they are paid commission.

Mobile computer

Day by day technology only making easier the communication and computing and devices were becoming least in weight from kg’s to gm’s... and the operations has become simply and fast and adequate for anyone to understand and use. Before I began to use computer 12 years ago I had plenty of dreams on the device and the days waiting for it to get assembled at home were indescribable and feel of something great wanted.

In more than 10 years of using computer and internet, the last two year were only been different in operating the system and content with speed. Not so greatly distinguished, the communication and sharing remain same but least satisfied on using the device in person and set free from the fixed desktop to wireless laptop as couch comfort and now lately adds the mini tab making the social network friendly and entertainment.

I was looking for a Smartphone lately but couldn’t get a decent one in least price and expectation, so bought a Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0, an android based handset which only lacks phone option of the Smartphone’s. The versatile handset has a brilliant 5” LCD screen for clear view on letters and large virtual keys for typing comfort... the player has a long standing battery to withstand as a quite eBook reader and player of music, HD videos and games.

The intend for the smart player was the GPS enable and Navigation which I wish will help through my travel and connect with internet on hot spots. It has a better 3.2 MP Camera and camcorder with front VGA for video chatting and alert on email and message from time to time... there’s more to explore and use as mobile computer.

Power sharing – while there’s no power

The power has been a big problem these days and due to shortage in electricity, there is a constant power cut in the state of Tamil Nadu for more than a year or two now on hours basis and a day holiday for once in month. I guess there’s similar problems in many other states of India too, and the worst affected here are the industries and rural areas where power cut is double triple times than two hours in cities… in some places its unstable and total shutdown for a day.

Glad we live in city like Chennai to experience and suffer from lease power outage, and whereas for our comfort many experience the burned out of city limit which we don’t realize or think about easily! Electricity is common for everyone and basic essential of life, but how many of us truly realize the worth of electric and even thought it wasn’t there we certainly go for alternative than accepting the shortage and try to reduce its usage or change schedule  according to power outage.

Alternative is not at all bad but when it comes from the same resource like electricity which already suffers a lot will make the situation even worse than leaning hand. There is a talk for one such alternative at home for long time and the urge for inverter has increased lately among parents… but I kept concern of keep away the thought and interest of parents confessing that electric is common for everyone and when others suffer, we have to take part in it instead going for inverter as alternative which is a way of stealing power.

If we think of the 6 to 8 hours of power outage out of city, just 2 hours is nothing but least to bear and a small change in our routine will do better and make us concentrate at things we badly missed in presence of current. I take the time of outage to write blogs or work on Photoshop, since I own laptop I make certain there’s enough power for two hours and the only disadvantage was lack of internet connection and I also do book or paper reading and listen to Walkman.

There are many way to divert our attention than feeling for single most current that connects our electronic devices, but we need to accept most of our today’s activates are based on gadgets. Back to inverter, it’s a worth device and necessary if we are at constant basis of work or expose to frequent power outage and for a house usage, I don’t think it’s quite necessary when many others suffer a lot from outage, we alone going for a inverter what other can’t afford esp. the poor. Again I need to confess, electricity is common for everyone and it’s a basic vessel we all travel on and we all need to share the pressure to make sure balance float and enjoy the pleasure ride.

Action squirrel with new Cam

Here’s a series of action by squirrel captured with my newly bought Camera, Canon PowerShot SX220 HS! It’s a quite impressive camera with quick burst and 14x optical zoom, it captures the distance objects crisp and clear to put me at great surprise and rejoice. I am enjoying it indeed :)

I really missed a good deal that comes in hand while getting this camera and I don’t want to miss the chance by paying little more on it where this model is on near closing its business represented by the latest models in its series. I’m quite content with the quality of pictures from this 12 megapixel point and shoot camera with features almost double than my currently corrupted with lens, Canon PowerShot SD850 IS.

I really wished for a camera with more zooming and light weighted and while studying on this format I find canon sx220hs getting prior in many area and even though its zooming is less compared to its similar feature based on brands Nikon, Sony… Canon is much better at picture quality and high speed shutter which I lack during low light with previous one. Moreover the design and the way of handing the camera want me to go for it with least disappointment with weight adding few more grams and battery that runs out sooner than the previous one… glad both the cameras hold the same batter for me to use one as spare while traveling.

Back in action, the cute lil squirrel was very active running here and there on the compound wall feeding on the idly left over and it doesn’t stop a moment for me until few seconds of munching… the camera acted too smart and fast capturing the squirrel never ever so clear nearby me! I’m ahead to go out testing and experience the various shooting modes it holds along extending my road trip on ECR further to Point Calimere.

My Laptop

Bought a Dell laptop (Inspiron 15R) yesterday and it was very cool in operating and very easy and fast at progress. First time moving with a touch pad is little tough even tapping was easy... it was very convenient for me sitting anywhere from home to operate the system connected via wi fi has more than enough features what my desktop had or hadn't.
With 6 hour long lasting batteries, the system runs on Windows 7 sitting on the i3 processor has 4GB Ram and 360GB hard disk is four sizes faster than my previous desktop. The 15.6" WLed screen discloses everything crisp and clear and very bright in a dark room is something disturbs slightly... anyhow it is a super model in style finished layout and stunning in color.

It was a long time wish to have a PC personally for me has been fulfilled by this and the system is in need of system recovery process and installing some more software’s to quite configuration. The system has two OS in which Linux has to be removed to make some faster the computer... is waiting for our service bro's deed.

For a month or less i was reading about the laps and planned to get it through a friend while he return from US, but the impatient mind and need can't wait for another 3 months since his work times has been extended. I'm very much content with the laptop that brought me independent to work at my favorable time and whenever i need without waiting for other to finish or work with a mind that i'm taking away the other time.

Sony, the sound of music

The electric which goes off often these has gone immense without a limit and extends beyond the scheduled times has become a challenge for everybody and the worst thing was as it goes away at mid-day when heat waves fold away. People believed the new government will solve this problem as soon it take oath, but whoever forms the govt. could not do anything unless wind blows, rain stores the reservoirs or plants produce high electric.

Its sorrow to see people suffer from power outage and its wonder how some act like that only now it’s getting hot and experiencing a summer for the first time that heading out home or the a/c room will burn into ashes. I’m not against people getting comfort from a/c rooms and getting cool themselves from summer heat but speaking without sense struck me hard as if they are the only survivors in this universe and those works for sum under the scorching sun will do with no option to survive.

Ok. Come to the post, it’s a dream come true for me after days or years of waiting for a best sound system that could content my heart listening to music and watching movies. It’s more than a decade I went to an enclosed theater where sound quality would be best at experiencing a quite movie but being a regular visitor to a Drive-In theater was not that greater to say about sound except good viewing at our leisure.

I always believe Sony is the best for music and so brought a home theater with lot of expectation that could meet my LED TV and satisfy me in various forms in which getting a best sound system and easy to control which has never become balanced so far. The new DVD Home Theater (DAV-TZ210) was the least cheap and best product from the Sony connects almost all digital devices which response in high definition and controls all connectivity in one remote.

I’m overjoyed by the product and listening to my favorite music and songs sounds so good and best at tempo and clear bass discovers many hidden species so far appears nothing and I haven’t checked with movies yet the installation has not done, the system is waiting for the company guys to demo and arrange the speakers. I connected few speakers and woofer with the help of mum and wonder how would it sound if surround speakers installed at its position. Awe... I am so happy with it and enjoying one of my passions for music and cinema.

Monitor

The indication has been blinking for some time and giving minute trouble while opening the windows and rarely give away to call the service bro to open the window reached its conclusion on Wednesday by testifying my patient to work with a monitor that 11 years old. Many reached me with the idea to change the monitor and some agreed with the clarity, clearance and wonderful resolution that content me to go with the monitor forever unless it refuse to work or loss its charm and beauty that bear my sight so far.

Brought in 2000, it has been accompanying me until day before yesterday has leant to learn so many things regarding reading, writing, sharing, viewing, drawing… through its screen and enduring the strain we gave to it immense operating. I went oh no attitude when the window screen shrunk after a constant vibration that interrupt my work sign it’s gonna suffer to die doesn’t reach my mind then and later causing a melting odor to shutdown quite.

It might have gone already if the product wasn’t good or we didn’t take care of it and amazing it never get into trouble or deliver a problem to get service and withstand the quality in its standard and smart resolution towards ending. Being patient has given me a best opportunity now to review things refreshingly and newly through the new LCD 18.5” monitor to disclose clearly the beauty across overseas and giving a content feeling of viewing the high resolution unlike ever.

The Samsung’s CRT monitor has been the best performer for me so far among the electronic items purchased which let me go for Samsung products such as LED TV and now the LCD monitor, cause a hope that it would continue to be so as so far for me.

CRT out LED in

It’s been more than a year our 15 years old Onida CRT television lost its charm and fades away its dwelling colors to lose interest in watching television and thus gone off completely one Sunday from viewing programs and came to an end from proceeding. Unknown what to do in between before going for a new one, came the state governments free television scheme to aid our problem and that too we haven’t received yet then, we brought the one from our grandma’s home and used until we get a new one free .

It was time getting down to the least television set from the comfort viewing zone, and it wasn’t different rather except viewing more radiant in color and better viewing than just being. The one and a half year ran very quickly and it was for the Ayudha puja we brought the television to watch special programs and we hadn’t think for a new one in the active running until lately I found interest on LCD before I get to know about LED. I therefore thinking about the television to be best in quality and economically confine to cost of money, I went for the Samsung 26” LED TV after considering a lot about it in net and comparing it with similar products.

There is a reason why I go for Samsung immediately is because my computer monitor is Samsung which exists for a decade now without quite any trouble and if not the product is good it can’t withstand this much and I never want to give away my monitor and many have advice me to change for LCD, but I can’t think for another one when I am constant with the clarity and color which took back many into surprise. There are many advised us to buy a big TV but I have a different opinion with them about the size and viewing that LCD or LED having a wide screen it shows the objects broader and damaged pictures while watching nearer and I think these TVs should bought considering the viewing distance and the spacious of the rooms and what important is the picture quality and clarity and not the size.
We bought a new Samsung LED TV on Wednesday and the picture quality was excellent and the wide color enhancer plus the mega dynamic contrast cause an exciting viewing the vivid display. I can’t keep away from its art and technology series which shows everything so refreshing to views that where watch many times before. The other day I watched the famous Tamil movie Anbe Vaa, one of the leading colorful movies of its earlier introduction in Tamil cinema was something bliss watching it in the advanced series of technology and unlike before I enjoyed the song puthiya vaanam... captured in Shimla, just put me in surprise how pristine the picturizations were even in those earlier days and it was amazing while realizing now. Thanks to the new advanced television series that helps to review the revisited things refreshingly and new. I prefer this television mostly to watch movies and I have list of movies I wanted to watch only after getting a latest television has exist now and I wish to watch more movies further to enjoy the enhance and beauty along with art and technology.

Got the wished

The long time wish or even sometimes the desire exists with new Digital Camera. Canon PowerShot SD850 IS in my hand delight all time looking at the 230,000 pixels colorful LCD. Its nine months since I was waiting for this camera to arrive through my friend’s colleague from US. It was the thing I must be holding right already, but because of some wrong information I missed to urge and avoid giving difficulty to my friend when he was on a project to US. Till then he was urging his colleague friends about my cam whoever left to US, but for some reason their return was delayed.

First of what the entire camera I chose its best is not what I get now, but the one similar to the Powershot SD800 IS this. The SD 850 is 8 Megapixel and what I chose is 7.1 though its costlier in Indian rupee, but not in US and the people get through online couldn’t find the model I selected. Though we can’t expect everything should be perfect, so I prefer to SD850 which is no more less to SD800 which I think best but comparing some options are high in this.

Something I looked important to choose the PowerShot SD 850 IS:

1. Image Stabilizer (for steady, long zoom shooting)
2. 4.0X Optical Zoom
3. 8.0 Mega Pixels
4. Red-eye correction
5. 2.5 inch 230,000 pixels Pure Color LCD
6. ISO up to 1600 and many lighting effects.

But to tell truly the disappoint thing in this camera is the weight, little heavier than I expected. The cam body just fits in our hand, which is comfortable pressing shutter button with a support. The zoom can’t be calculated as it don’t show the exact stage in zoom, but no different visible, I must do exercise more with optical Zoom and it was fun zooming something in distance. In addiction I buy a 4GB memory card that can hold more than 1,000 shots in Super Fine to take the maximum quality pictures and in minimum more than 5,000. I like the color of the body in silver metallic, the ultra-slim and stylish look. The first reason to select Canon PowerShot SD 850 IS is for the much less shaking option and it’s the main problem I face more in Digital Cameras taking more shaky pictures. When i was looking for this camera in India it cost 360 US$, but the same thing cost me 227 US$ brought in US. Hope power shot portrait colorful to heart and sight, with your entire wish.

Mobiles only outside campus

In last years the topic of using mobiles in collage raises, with some misuse many universities come to pass order on banning it esp. those with camera. Now the state government on its way to ban cell phones use in schools, which was in fore by school officials already. For using and none using the students, parents and teachers tells varies reasons, but to correct the recent change in life that some end in misuse, the necessary on ban is must in preliminary warning. Except misuse, the mobile disturbs student’s studies while always smsing and playing games the mind diffuse to concentrate on subjects. If students can afford a mobiles, it won’t surprise if teachers own, but they need to be paragon to others avoiding mobiles in class hours or leave it at staff rooms.

There where times when students bring hand video games, trump cards to school hiding inside there bags and play while class was running and in brake times. Then caught by teachers and struggle to get back the thing or pay fine. Haven’t there days moved without cell phones, students never left home without it, no tuition, special class or extra-curricular activities went. Then why we want students to get confused with cell today. Technological gadgets are useful in many way, we have to see what’s necessary at the time and aware of both positive and negative sides of it. I was trying some online games for my cousin in his holidays, keeping him at my side. When he sees something colorful with cars, funny ads, graphic games he just want to check them; I don’t know how to make him understand his innocent on net. Who know what’s behind a click, where it goes. Some ads giving a sign of wrong thing that some may go to abuse sites, it was shocking to know the online games has vulgar characters. I don’t know why I am telling this, but like this some students not aware of another side of cell phones. There are many infringer minds out there without our knowledge; those hands may pull them to land in difference that’s very strange.

In my schools days the cell phone haven’t reach that much, and where not even allowed to tie watch and allowed only from higher class. If any urgent call have to made, with the help of school staffs we can do it. If parents comes late to pickup or any other changes in routine of school time teachers used to call our home from office telephone to contact parents. We feel like being in safe hand till leaving school campus. Ones they practiced with mobiles, they addicted to it, wanted to connect with friends always. Even today’s kids want cell phones; they know everything where elders learn from them. Phones with cam are like adding sugar to taste, it go around through good, bad pics scenes for fun. There was a question only for some doing wrong thing with phone why should it affect others using usefully. School is something pubic to all, just giving excuses to one or two will bring difference in unity, whatever needed must be followed with teachers and officials alone.
